Shokudo is a popular restaurant near Ala Moana shopping center on Oahu. It's an extremely popular place; Aj told me the wait for a table was once 2 and 1/2 hours! It's always on my list of place to go when I come back home. Everything I've tried here so far has been amazing; entrees, appetizers, sushi, noodles, cocktails, desserts--All super nom. I'm actually really disappointed that I didn't bring my dslr with me for this event, but ah well. I still got photos!
I went this past Sunday with Aj and her boyfriend Raf. Of course we started off with drinks. The three of us all ended up going for lychee flavored drinks. I went for a Lychee Mojito with soju and they both ordered a Lychee Saketini (martini with sake!) I haven't tried many drinks at Shokudo mostly because I really like the Lychee Mojito, but all the ones I have tried so far are seriously yummy. Raf also ended dinner with another drink--that green concoction with ice cream in it above. It was a Melon Soda Float with sake in it. Basically he turned a drink that was supposed to be non-alcoholic into an alcoholic beverage. it was really strange--but in a good way! The waitress we had said she'd never heard of anyone asking for that, but the three of us tried the drink and told her she should too sometime! It went from soda to sake to sweet. Different, but again, a good thing.
Alright. So we had quite the meal. I love food and I have friends who also love food so we had a good time Sunday. We started off with the Mochi Cheese Gratin. I've had this in the past and it's something I'll probably have more of in the future. I've always associated mochi with sweet, but this was savory, cheesy and delicious. Then we had the Hamachi Carpaccio. Again; DELICIOUS. We were wishing we had more of it. For my entree I had the Shrimp Tempura Udon. It was my first time having it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time I'm definitely asking for my tempura on the side though. It gets soggy and the tempura part of the shrimp ends up soaking up all of the yummy soup. We also ordered the Homemade Tofu Salad which we also wanted more of. It was kind of like a chinese chicken salad but with tofu instead of chicken.
For desert Raf chose something that our waitress suggested (and that wasn't on the menu) Tempura Bread Pudding Ala Mode. I actually didn't get to try it, but it looked so amazing I had to take a picture. I got what I always come to Shokudo for and what they are quite famous for; Honey Toast. It's a tower of honey drizzled goodness with ice cream on top. You can get the ice cream in different flavors too! I usually just stick with vanilla. What they do is use the giant toast crust as a means to keep the cubes of toast inside all organized.
