About a week ago, I started coming down with something. Since then, I've been doing everything in my power to get over it. When I first got sick, I had it all. Aches, fever, stuffy nose, sore throat, coughs. Luckily, those only lasted a few days. Now, I've managed to get rid of all my symptoms except for this annoying cough.
The worst part about having a fever for me, is being limited to what types of food I can eat. Solid foods take a lot of energy to break down and digest, which causes your body temperature to rise. When you've got a fever, that's the last thing you want! They always say "starve a fever, feed a cold" but all know I love my food, so starving is not an option. While I was sick, here's what I ate:

Homemade Chicken & Veggie soup
This will help give you nutrients to fight off your fever, and it'll also be soothing if you have a sore throat. I can't stand canned chicken soup. I think it tastes awful. To make your own chicken soup just fry up whatever kind of chicken you have (chicken wings work fine) in the bottom of a pot with some oil, garlic and desired spices/salts. Once that's all cooked up add water and chicken bouillon for the soup. Let that boil, then toss in some onions, potatoes, carrots, celery, corn etc. In the soup Jon made me, he also added some paprika and chili powder for a bit of spice, which helped clear up my congestion. I also ate it with a side of rice (of course).
Amped Up Instant-Ramen
I'm usually not a big fan of instant ramen, mostly because it's crap compared to really authentic Japanese ramen. But when you're sick, extensive cooking is the last thing you want to be doing. To amp up your instant ramen there are a bunch of things you can add. My favorite way is to add a boiled egg, some bok choy/chinese cabbage, some shoyu (soy sauce) and a slice of ham (like the ones served at breakfast). Jon tried adding Sriracha hot sauce and hoisin sauce to his plain ramen last night because we had nothing else to add, and it was actually pretty good as well!
Chamomile Tea with Honey
My favorite kind of tea is black tea with milk and sugar. However, when I'm sick I try to stay away from dairy (it causes you to produce more phlegm). This tea was perfect for my sore throat though.
BONUS TIPS:
-If your throat is really sore and raw, swallow a spoonful of honey.
-A bit of honey mixed with apple cider vinegar is also really helpful for a stubborn sore throat.
-To help control your cough, mix a spoonful of salt with warm water and gargle.
-Menthol cough drops, mints, or minty gum are great for stifling coughs while in class/at work.
-A rice porridge is also really good for sick people! My mom makes a Filipino one called arroz caldo. According to Jon, Koreans make the same thing but call it juk.
