Both pictures are edited. I couldn't figure out which one I liked more though (maybe the softer one?) so I put both up.

I've never considered myself an amazing photographer, because I'm constantly surrounded by some outstanding, dedicated ones. As a journalist though, I am required to have experience in photography because it's my job. I own a DSLR and I enjoy taking photos with it, but sometimes I just don't want to carry it around.
I think a story should ALWAYS come with photos, and I almost never write a blog post if it has no visuals to accompany it. I LOVE photos but HATE lugging my DSLR around, so I've accustomed myself to snapping some pretty good photos with my iPhone. Below are some of my favorite apps, tips and photos I've taken with my iPhone.
My photos are far from perfect, but I'd like to share what I do know with you guys!

TIP #1 Don't expect it to be flawless
Sometimes the beauty of a photo is its imperfections. Most people who do iPhoneography put their photos through a lot of editing and filtering. It's rarely ever just snap and done.

TIP #2 Framing
That being said, even though the original photo isn't going to be breathtaking, you still need to know how to frame it correctly. It's easy to forget your rule of thirds and just any sort of aesthetically pleasing framing when you're snapping a photo on your iPhone. It just feels so natural to take the pic without even thinking about it. So here's the secret: Stop and think about it.

TIP #3 Lighting
The iPhone's camera is good, but not great. Without proper lighting, it just doesn't look great no matter what. Granted, sometimes the grainy look works (especially when you're going for a vintage photograph look). But most of the time I find myself looking for more light.

TIP #4 Snapseed
This is by far my FAVORITE photo editor app on the iPhone. I've used others, including PS Express, but Snapseed really just takes the cake. You can blur focus, add different types of effects, adjust the brightness and contrast, add an ambience and more!

TIP #5 HDR
I try to use the HDR setting when possible. It just makes everything look better. Sometimes I forget, but I love the HDR settings.

That's all I have for you guys! Like I said, these pictures aren't perfect, but I've definitely gotten some surprise from people who didn't think these pictures were from an iPhone! If you have any questions, comments etc, leave them for me below!
