This August, I'm participating in SEDA! That's Something Every Day in August. I made it up because I couldn't decide between VEDA and BEDA.
Aj and I have been working on an online magazine called Nerdsy.net for a while now, and we have but one month left before the official launch date! This means crunch time! We've got a few friends helping us write articles and we're working on developing the website and figuring out a system that works for us.
This is a really exciting time for me because I've always dreamed of being the "founder" of something like this. I've always wanted to start my own company or publication and while this is still something small, I feel as if I've achieved a major goal here. I always thought that I'd never be able to do something like this; launch an online magazine. It seemed like something people who were much smarter and more talented than me would do.
Then today, I walked into the copy room at my job and saw a quote on the wall. It said, "It's not who you think you are that holds you back, It's who you think you are not." That's when it hit me. Ordinary people never achieve great things because they think they're ordinary. If they believed that they were great, they'd be able to achieve great things. If they knew their worth, they'd know how strong, committed, and passionate they are and how these traits make them capable of amazing things.
I'm beginning to realize my own worth. I know this sounds silly, but I feel like I have YouTube to thank for that. Through YouTube I've met some AMAZING people. People I would've never met in real life. People my age and younger who I've seen start bands, create their first songs, launch websites, rally for good causes, start fundraisers, travel the world. People who seem so "normal" but know that they are capable of so. much. more. People who I can call my friends. And my friends have inspired me. I don't think outsiders could ever understand what being a part of the YouTube community has done to me and for me. But I feel happy and damn proud to be an insider, and to have gained so much.
