I don't really believe in resolutions. They're just empty promises that people forget about until the next New Year comes along and they remember that they got nowhere near fulfilling those resolutions. However, I'm big on GOALS. This year, I've decided to set a list of goals for myself that I'll hopefully keep updates on monthly.
- READ AT LEAST ONE BOOK A MONTH . . . Goals are specific. Resolutions are vague. So instead of saying "I want to read more," I'm saying "I want to read at least one book a month." So far, so good! I just finished my January read, so I'm right on track! Hah. If I can manage to keep up this goal for the entire year, then I will have read at least 12 books for the entire year. Which is actually my goal for the year.
- HAVE SOME "MO TIME" AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH . . . Something I've been struggling with in recent months has been separating myself from Jon. Our relationship has changed drastically and gotten much stronger but after he recovered from cancer I found that I was used to being with him almost literally all the time. I was getting clingy and too dependent on him, and that's not who I want to be. So I'm taking the steps to become an independent person again, and do things without him.
- WRITE IN MY JOURNAL AT LEAST 5 DAYS A WEEK . . . I kind of stopped writing in my journal during 2013. I've always been a big writer (hence Journalism, my love for journals and blogging). For some reason, in 2013, the only time I would journal would be when I was having a bad day or felt really upset. Eventually having only bad things in my journal really discouraged me from picking it up at all. So for 2014 I'm going to journal more often. I want to write every day, but I'm putting down 5 days a week so I don't feel discouraged or guilty if I miss a few days.
And that's all that I have for now. I'm happy with my goals. They're realistic and doable. I really think that these are the steps I need to take to become happier and be a better person. Personally, I can't do anything with a resolution like "Be happier. Be a better person" because it doesn't tell me HOW. Sure, I can resolve to do it. But until I set some goals, I'm never going to get there. So, this is me trying to get there.
What steps are you taking to reach your goals and resolutions? Are yours any similar to mine? :) I mean, if you're planning on reading more in 2014, we should start a book club or something! heh.
