I've been to two conventions recently! They've brought up a lot of different thoughts and feelings about cons and being a nerd.
I remember exactly where I was the first time I found out there were such a thing as nerdy conventions. I was 18-years-old and had just returned back home to Hawaii for winter break. While sleeping over at my best friend AJ's house and she told me about this Harry Potter convention she heard briefly about, pulling up a page on her computer to show me.
That night, we decided that we were going, no matter what it took. The next summer, we were in Orlando, Florida at our first Harry Potter con.
Ever since then, I've been to at least one convention every year. (Some smaller ones, but conventions nonetheless)
The excitement, the energy, the people at conventions...it's unlike anything I've ever felt! It's like how some people get when they go to concerts, music festivals or raves. For me, it's conventions.
Within the past week, I've been to two conventions. In my own city! Last weekend was Tucson ComicCon, and this weekend was TusCon, the science fiction convention.
Even though I was there under different circumstances, it brought me the same joy and excitement. It brought me back to my nerdy roots and reminded me why I love being a part of nerd culture. It reminded me of who I really am. Sometimes I lose myself a little, because being in Tucson, I don't really have any nerdy friends. They all live in different states and cities. There's no one who I can actively geek out with on a daily basis so sometimes I forget.

I actually got to interview and talk to a bunch of different people at these conventions. I found out about a non-profit organization called AZ TARDIS, which is basically Doctor Who's version of the Harry Potter Alliance. I mostly talked to Con-goers at ComicCon and authors at TusCon. I got to meet the guy from Meteorite Men too! There wasn't as many people at TusCon. They capped it off at 500 people, but it was still pretty cool!
On another note, Jon did something to my car to make it sound like I put a VERY LOUD muffler on it. So now I need to take it in to the shop to get it checked out. I'm insanely pissed about it, but he won't do anything about it until Monday. Sigh.
Today is awesome because I've decided to implement an old Five Awesome Girls tradition into my blog! Hooray! Even though things suck sometimes, (like my car! WAHHH) I still need to find a way to look for the good. Today is also awesome because it's the weekend. Thank God.
Why is your day awesome??
