Jon is leaving town soon to go be with his parents for a while. I try not to think about it too often because I don't much enjoy the thought of him being gone for a month or two. It's obvious that I am a foodie, so it should be no surprise that my boyfriend is one too. I've mentioned in past posts that Jon is a good cook, though he tends to be over-critical of himself. He never believes me when I say I enjoy his food. This week, he wanted to give me a break and cook me a meal. |
Clearly we both have the same ideas when it comes to showing each other we care. Cooking seems to be number one on our lists. I've been doing most of the cooking lately, which can be kind of tiresome. And when I get tired and worn, my cooking tends to get simpler and simpler.
It was nice to have an elaborately prepared home-cooked meal that someone else made. I think it's unfortunate that some people don't understand what it really means to cook for someone. It's unfortunate that people don't know how much love, time, thought and effort it takes to prepare a meal for someone, be it a simple one or not.
Jon loves using a variety of ingredients when he cooks. He made an amazing beef stew with TONS of veggies. As much as we love meat, we both love our veggies. It adds a nice, crunchy texture. As per usual, the stew was served with rice. We're Asian. We basically never have a meal without rice unless it's pasta.
So anyways, I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with Jon before he has to go. I've been trying to think of ways I'll keep myself busy once he leaves as well. Maybe I'll actually start working out again. Or maybe I'll take up yoga. It's always interested me; As a dancer flexibility was always one of my strong suits. It'd be nice to get that back again.
In other news, blogging has become a good replacement for my usual journaling. I find it a lot more satisfying to see pictures along side my posts, and blogging has pushed me to better document my life through pictures. I'm getting a lot better at getting great photos (such as the ones in this post) on my iPhone. It's interesting to sit down and choose what I do and do not share online as well, being that this blog is public. It's also very convenient to have everything accessible anywhere I have an internet connection.
But as much as I love sharing my life online, there are still moments I intend to keep private, which I reserve for my journal. I'm still surprised at the satisfaction I get through blogging though.
