I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with documenting things. I've always been the type to keep a journal, take pictures and in the past few years--vlog but recently I've been dealing with a severe case of wanderlust which led me to a variety of different blogs. Food blogs, life blogs, photography blogs, travel blogs. I loved them all. I couldn't get enough of them. Still can't! I haven't really blogged much (not since the days of Xanga....Oh dear God I actually went back and looked at mine. Lets never do that again) but ever since I bought my own domain name (mothejournalist.com) I've been blogging quite a bit. So here goes nothing. My first post.
The lighting in my house is quite terrible and I'm very new at food-photography so forgive me if the photos aren't quite up to par. I'm learning along the way. I need to get some daylight bulbs in my dining room. Some of these pictures were pretty underexposed and these were the best I could do.

Along with my first post I tried cooking baked spaghetti for the first time. If you don't know this about me, I love food. I may be a college student but I have never lived off of mac and cheese or saimin (ramen. I call it saimin because I'm from Hawaii). Being Asian, I always have rice with my meals unless I'm having pasta. I didn't have a casserole dish or anything of the sort to bake the spaghetti in once it was finished so I had to use a cake pan. heh. The spaghetti came out really well actually! This is usually how I make spaghetti up until the baking part. I decided to try baking it for some reason, but I didn't really have enough cheese for it to make much of a difference. Oh well.
I also have never recorded anything whatsoever about cooking before. I don't even measure when I cook! I tend to just wing it when I cook, so by no means am I giving a recipe, just a....guideline? Perhaps?
INGREDIENTS:
-2 cans tomato sauce
-5-8 medium sized diced garlic cloves (I love me some garlic)
-A handfull of sliced onions
-1 package ground beef
-Garlic Salt (to taste)
-Garlic Powder (to taste)
-1 package spaghetti
-Shredded parmesan cheese
WHAT I DID:
First I boiled the spaghetti with some salt and butter in a large pot until it was cooked al dente. Mostly because I'm impatient. After draining the spaghetti, I used the same pot, browning the garlic and onions with some oil in the bottom of it. Afterwards, I added the ground beef, adding garlic salt and powder to taste. I really hate sour spaghetti sauce and prefer mine very savory with strong amounts of garlic in it so you can imagine that I added a LOT of garlic. Once the beef was cook I added the two cans of tomato sauce and continued adding garlic powder until the sourness was balanced out.
While letting the sauce cook a bit, I pre-heated the oven to 350 F
Once the sauce was done, I placed some in the cake pan, then added spaghetti and more sauce. I topped it off with a little bit of cheese (mostly because I had run out of cheese. I also love me some melted cheese so if I had enough I would've drowned that thing in cheese) and baked it in the oven for about 5 or so minutes.
Then I spent probably 40 minutes trying to figure out how to photograph the damn thing.
Hah.
So this concludes my first "adventure" post! :) I consider food very much an adventure! Hopefully I can get some interesting stuff up in the future!
